President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson

The fifth President of the Republic of Iceland Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson was born in Ísafjörður on May 14th 1943. His parents were Grímur Kristgeirsson and Svanhildur Ólafsdóttir Hjartar.

Ólafur Ragnar matriculated from the Reykjavík Grammar School in 1962, took his BA degree in Economics and Political Science at the University of Manchester in 1965 and completed his Ph.D. in Political Science at the same university in 1970, becoming the first Icelander to earn a doctorate in this discipline.

President Mohamed Nasheed

Pres_NasheedMohamed Nasheed is the first democratically elected President in the history of the Maldives.

He was elected president on 28 October 2008, defeating incumbent President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, who ruled the Maldives from 1978-2008.

Nasheed was born in Male’, Republic of Maldives, on 17 May 1967. He attended Majeediyya School, Male’ between 1971-1981.

In 1981, he attended the Overseas School, Colombo before moving to The Dauntsey’s School in England to complete his ‘A’ levels, between 1982-1984.

Nasheed remained in the UK for his higher education, graduating from Liverpool University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts in Maritime Studies.

Nasheed’s early political career was dominated by his non-violent struggle for democracy in the Maldives.

HE Elizabeth Dipuo Peters

Minister_of_EnergyMs Dipuo Peters was born on 13 May 1960 in the Northern Cape. She started her political activism at a very young age as a member of the Young Christian Students during her school days at Tidimalo Junior Secondary and Tshireleco Senior Secondary Schools

She was actively involved in youth formation in the church and community including being a member of the Galeshewe Youth Congress, an affiliate of the United Democratic Front. She completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work at the University of North (now University of Limpopo) in 1987where she was the Deputy Chairperson of the Women’s Forum in Azanian Student Congress (Azasco) which later became South African Student Congress (Sasco).

Ahmed Ali Mohamed Abdullah Al Sayegh is the Chairman of Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar), his career has spanned numerous environmental initiatives in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, he also serves as Vice Chairman of Emirates Wildlife Society (EWS). The EWS has played an integral part in promoting sustainable lifestyles, raising awareness and advocating for a reduction in the UAE's ecological footprint, considered to be among the highest per capita in the world.

Timothy E. Wirth

Timothy Wirth is the President of the United Nations Foundation and the Better World Fund. Both organizations were founded in 1998 through a major financial commitment from Ted Turner to support and strengthen the work of the United Nations.

Wirth began his political career as a White House Fellow under President Lyndon Johnson and served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Education in the Nixon Administration. In 1970, Wirth returned to his home state of Colorado and successfully ran for the U.S. House of Representatives in 1974. He represented Denver suburbs from 1975-1987. Wirth was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1986 where he focused on environmental issues, particularly global climate change and population stabilization.

Cherie Blair

The first member of her family to attend universi­ty, Cherie studied law at the London School of Economics and graduated with a First Class Degree in 1976. While stu­dying for her Bar exams she also taught Law at the University of Westminster. Cherie came top of her year in her Bar exa­minations and was called to the Bar in 1976. She became a Queens Counsel in 1995 and sits as a Recorder, as part-time judges are known, and is also an accredited mediator.

Her fellow trainee at her first chambers was Tony Blair. The couple married in 1980 and have four children - the youngest, Leo, being the first child born to a serving Prime Minister for over a century.

The Foundation places particular emphasis on the issues of global warming, alternative and renewable energy sources, and the preservation of the planet's biodiversity. DiCaprio also has supported other non-profit organizations, including the Dian Fossey Foundation, Reef Check, Oceana, Santa Monica's Heal The Bay, the U'wa Defense Project and TreePeople.
