THE VISION

TURNING TODAY'S IDEAS INTO TOMORROW'S ENERGY
The Zayed Future Energy Prize came to fruition as a result of the vision of the late Ruler of Abu Dhabi and Founding Father of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

In 2008 at the World Future Energy Summit, His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of the UAE, announced The Zayed Future Energy Prize, to honour his father's legacy of environmental stewardship

With the introduction of the Zayed Future Energy Prize, Abu Dhabi, with its international partners at its side, aims to inspire the next generation of global energy innovators – creating solutions we can barely imagine today.

The scope of the Prize has broadened to embrace three new categories:

The Prize will be awarded to 5 recipients: A recognition award for Large Corporations, a Lifetime Achievement award for Individuals and three awards (one winner and two runners-up) for Small and Medium size Enterprises (SMEs) & Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs). To inspire budding young innovators, a fourth special award category was instituted in late 2011: the Global High School Prize, which will first be given in 2013.

Finalists will be nominated by experts across the globe while the winners will be chosen by a jury chaired by President of Iceland, His Excellency Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson.
