The Vision and Mission

The Zayed Future Energy Prize came to fruition as a result of the vision of the late Ruler of Abu Dhabi and Founding Father of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

In 2008 at the World Future Energy Summit, His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of the UAE, announced The Zayed Future Energy Prize, to honour his father’s legacy of environmental stewardship.

With the introduction of the Zayed Future Energy Prize, Abu Dhabi, with its international partners at its side, aims to inspire the next generation of global energy innovators – creating solutions we can barely imagine today.

The Prize will be awarded to individuals, highschools, companies, organisations or Non-Profit Organizations (NPO/NGO) that have made significant contributions in the global response to the future of energy.

Finalists will be nominated by experts across the globe while the winners will be chosen by a jury chaired by HE Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, President of the Republic of Iceland.

The Zayed Future Energy Prize will be one of the driving forces behind innovative energy solutions. The Prize will recognise the achievements of governments, companies, Non-Profit Organizations (NPO/NGO), individuals and institutions in response to the crisis of climate change and sustainable global energy resources.
