Amra Bint Abdul Rahman Secondary School for Girls

The school is located in the United Arab Emirates which has a sub-tropical and arid climate with plenty of sunshine. It has 88 students and wants install some solar panels to reduce the amount of electricity it buys from the grid, and replace all its light bulbs with LED lamps to reduce its overall consumption.

Rishi Valley Education Centre

The school is located in a remote part of India and wants to build a 25kW PV system with battery storage to combat regular power cuts. Power cuts can be up to 10 hours a day and impede regular learning for students. It is also promoted as a way to reduce the school’s carbon footprint and to increase awareness about sustainable energy sources. The school consists of a main school with a teacher training centre as well as ten satellite schools in neighbouring villages.

Abaarso school of science and technology

Abaarso School of Science and Technology is a selective boarding school with a mathematics-focused curriculum taught in English. The school’s teachers are volunteers. The school currently has a 20kW wind turbine and two diesel generators with micro-grid controls. The school won $50,000 last year after becoming a finalist for the ZFEP and is using these funds to repair its wind turbine and its solar water heaters.
